New, Expanded Therapy Gym Opens in Response to Increased Demand for Rehabilitation Services
August 10, 2011— Chippewa Falls - Wissota Health and Regional Vent Center, 2815 County Hwy I, recently announced the completion of their new, expanded Transitions Rehabilitation therapy gym. The 3000 square foot gym incorporates several unique features and equipment to better serve patients, improve efficiencies of staff work space, and meet the growing demand for rehabilitation services.
Jeremy Kiley, Administrator of Wissota Health, said "Skilled, experienced speech, occupational, and physical therapists work with patients recovering from a variety of conditions, such as hip and knee replacements, cardiac and stroke rehabilitation, as well as general weakness. Having the latest equipment and technology available is essential to the patient's recovery and return home. This expansion helps us to better handle the region's short-term care needs today and well into the future."
The therapy gym contains a track mounted ceiling lift to help patients improve balance and practice walking again. The GH2 ceiling lift eliminates the pull of gravity, so patients are able to safely practice their techniques without the fear of falling. A simulated apartment with a full kitchen, laundry, bedroom and bathroom allows patients to practice skills and techniques needed to safely return home. Furthermore, a simulated doorway entrance with steps, curb and ramp aids in learning or re-learning how to properly navigate varying terrain, especially with a cane or walker. Investment in a biofeedback monitor allows a therapist to measure muscle activity and the extent of an injury thereby assisting with strengthening and training proper movement. An array of cardio equipment helps patients build cardiovascular health and endurance.
Located next to St. Joseph's Hospital, Wissota Health and Regional Vent Center is a 135 bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility providing in-patient and out-patient therapy services, pre-surgical rehabilitation, long-term care, palliative/end-of-life care and ventilator care, along with 24-hour nursing care.
